Huntington, NY Asbestos Removal That Keeps Your Remodel Rolling

Old tile under the kitchen floor, wrapped pipes behind the bathroom wall, a textured ceiling over the island. We sample it, pull it out inside a sealed zone and hand the room back clean, so the cabinet installer is not left waiting.

Built into every job

  • Sample before demo

Questionable flooring, plaster or wrap gets cut, bagged and lab-read before the sledgehammer comes out.

  • Zone wrapped tight

Heavy poly, taped seams and a HEPA unit drawing air in. The rest of the house stays out of it.

  • Damp the whole way

Material is misted as it comes loose. Wet debris is heavy debris, and heavy debris stays put.

  • The scope, in ink

Which materials, which rooms, where the waste goes. Spelled out before a single tool is unpacked.

  • Phones on all night

A wall opened by surprise at the end of the day still gets a real answer.

What the Huntington Crew Handles

Most of our calls start mid-project. The cabinets are ordered, the tile is picked out, and somebody just found something odd under the old linoleum. Here is the work we do, start to finish.

Six Steps Between Finding It and Finishing the Remodel

  1. The phone call

Tell us what turned up, which room, and where the remodel stands. Cabinets arriving soon? Plumber booked? We plan with that in mind.

  2. A look and some samples

A certified inspector comes by, picks out the suspect stuff and takes small samples. The lab, not a hunch, decides what counts.

  3. Paper before plastic

You get the scope in writing: each material, the rooms involved, the containment plan and how waste leaves. Any required notice gets filed.

  4. Sealing the room

The room gets wrapped: sheeting underfoot and up the walls, vents and doors taped, a HEPA unit drawing air inward. The living room never knows we are there.

  5. Taking it out

Licensed handlers wet the material, work it loose and pack it into labeled bags right inside the zone. Nothing dry, nothing rushed.

  6. Clean, test, hand off

A HEPA vacuum pass, a wet wipe, then a third-party air check. Passes? Plastic comes down and the remodel picks up again.

Why Remodelers and Homeowners Keep Our Number

A remodel stalls for two asbestos reasons: nobody knows what the material is, or nobody knows when the room will be ready. We fix both.

  • A clean room at the finish

The job is not done when the last bag leaves. It is done when an independent air test passes and the space is wiped down, ready for drywall, tile or the family.

  • Licensed for this exact work

New York requires licensed abatement contractors and certified handlers for asbestos. That is who shows up, and the notices get filed properly from day one.

  • Filings off your plate

Notifications, ACP-5 surveys for city jobs and the steps after a DEP order. Handled, so a permit or inspection is not sitting on a missing form.

  • No surprises in the scope

Which materials, how the room is closed off, where the waste ends up, what passing clearance means. On paper before anybody unrolls plastic.

Serving Huntington and the North Shore Towns Around It

Huntington runs from the harbor villages down past Jericho Turnpike to the Northern State Parkway, and the houses cover every era. Capes and ranches from the postwar boom. Older homes near the harbor. Split-levels in Huntington Station and Dix Hills that are finally getting their first real kitchen redo. Plenty of them were built when asbestos was a normal part of floor tile, boiler wrap and ceiling texture, which is why a remodel here so often turns up a question. We work all over the town and into the next ones, from Cold Spring Harbor to Commack.

Kitchens and baths first

Old sheet flooring, small square tile and the mastic underneath are the usual finds. Test early and the tile guy stays on schedule.

Basements and boiler rooms

Swapping an old oil burner or finishing the basement? Pipe and boiler wrap often needs to come out before the new work goes in.

City projects too

Lots of folks here own or build in Queens or the other boroughs. Those city jobs, whether they need an ACP-5 survey or have a DEP order hanging over them, go through this same phone.

The Cabinets Are Coming. Is the Floor Ready?

A suspect tile found on demo day can freeze a whole remodel. A quick test and a planned removal keep the plumber, the electrician and the tile setter on their dates.

Asbestos Questions Huntington Homeowners Ask

Short, honest answers to what comes up on almost every call.

Popcorn ceiling from way back: is asbestos likely?

It might be there. Sprayed acoustic and textured ceilings from past decades contain it in some houses and not in others, and nobody can tell by eye. Before scraping, sanding or drilling into one, get a sample analyzed. Positive result? The room gets sealed and the ceiling comes down wet.

Could I just pull out the asbestos myself?

We strongly advise against it. Asbestos releases fibers when it is broken, scraped or torn out, and a homeowner without containment, negative air or proper disposal can spread it through the house. New York also sets licensing and handling rules for asbestos work, and waste has to go to a facility permitted to take it.

Where does asbestos usually hide in an older house?

Usual hiding spots: wrap on pipes and the boiler, vinyl floor tile and the black glue beneath it, popcorn or swirl ceilings, joint compound, cement siding, asbestos roof shingles and duct insulation. Not every house has it in every spot. Only a lab test tells you which ones in yours do.

Who is allowed to sign off on an ACP-5?

Only an asbestos investigator certified by DEP, and only after a survey of the space the permit work will touch. The ACP-5 is a New York City requirement tied to most Department of Buildings permit filings in the five boroughs. It does not apply to a project in Huntington, but if you own or build in the city, we can arrange the survey and report.

That crusty wrap on the basement pipes and boiler: is it dangerous?

Left alone and in good shape, it is usually lower risk. Once it is crumbling, water damaged or about to be disturbed by a boiler swap or plumbing work, it becomes a real concern because fibers can be released. Get it tested, keep people from poking at it, and plan removal before the heating contractor starts.

What happens when DEP issues a stop work order over asbestos, and how is it lifted?

It means DEP has halted a New York City project because asbestos was disturbed without proper paperwork or controls in place. Lifting it usually takes correct filings, licensed abatement with air monitoring running, and sign-off from DEP. These orders are a five-borough matter, not a Huntington one, and any promise about the city's pace would be a guess.
